of Uptown Church,
The last couple of months have brought many dramatic changes
for all of us as you know. This historic disaster has left
no life untouched. We are aware of just how far reaching the
effects of this storm have we are praying for and with all
of you. God is indeed at work even amidst such difficult circumstances.
Life will be different for all of us, and God desires that
the changes bring about newness and opportunity for everyone.
In the midst of this physical storm many around us are also
experiencing a storm of the soul. It is the calling of the
Church to be reaching out to all of those in need even while
we tend to our own needs as well. Know that God is using this
calamity to call people unto Himself and He is building better
futures as people come to Him.
Uptown Church, as many of you know, was just birthed this
past Easter. God blessed us and gave us many great moments
in the last several months. We have seen the broken hearted
healed, the needy served, those burnt out restored, and those
without a relationship with God come to know Him. Its been
a good ride. The sad news for many of us is that Katrina has
hit our church hard. Though we sustained little physical damage,
the scattering of our people and particularly our leadership
has led us to make the very difficult decision to close our
doors for now. We are hopeful that the future will bring great
things for all of you who have come through our doors and
we know that God is at work building you and building His
Church. Though this time is presenting many challenges, we
have every confidence that God's bigger and better plans will
come to fruition. As Romans instructs us, He is working ALL
THINGS for our good!
Joey and his family have relocated back to Atlanta (where
they were prior to the storm), and Bruce is currently writing
a book on the storm and hopes to publish his book, SOUL STORM:
FINDING GOD AMIDST DISASTER, very soon. He and his family
have remained in the area.
Many of our leaders have gone to various parts of the country
and are beginning new lives and are doing God's work in new
locations.
We pray for God's best for everyone and pray that you find
what God is up to in your life during this time. Look up,
help is on the way, and God is still at work. He can and will
rebuild our souls, our cities, and our future.
