Core Values
“What we think, believe, and aim to be”
|
|
The
church in relationship...
- We think the church doors should be open to people who are
seeking answers to their questions (there are no perfect people—not
even in the church…and we don’t want to pretend there are).
- We think that people want and need to be walking in community
with others (we build lives worth living when we have meaningful
relationships).
- We think it ought to be FUN (doing life together should
be a blast—”doing” church does not have to be boring).
|
The
church in community...
- We think the church ought
to give back to the community (reaching out to the poor, touching
the sick, helping those with addictions, extending care to
those in need around the world).
- We think the church should
address real issues that real people are dealing with in real
life (sex, family, money, pain, loss, pleasure, ambition,
education…).
|
The
church in culture...
- We think the church is the hope of the world and can adequately
address all the “big questions” of our time (questions of
intellect, science, culture, belief, ethics, morality, …).
- We think the church ought to provide resources for people
who are wrestling with life issues (family, disabilities,
relationship skills, stress management,…).
- We think the church ought to be up to date and relevant
in its style of communication (multi media, video, drama,
performing and fine arts, high quality music, …).
|
The
church and diversity...
- We think people of all colors and flavors ought to be working,
living, and walking in community (the church in this community
ought to reflect the diversity of this community).
- We think the church ought to strive to be creative in its
expression of worship (diversity of musical and dramatic style,
genre, speaking, etc).
- We think that when the church is functioning as it ought
to function it becomes the most winsome organism in all of
society.
|
The
church and rational belief in worship...
- We think faith, while more than rational, is indeed rational
(“simple faith”, “blind faith”, and other expressions like
these, diminish the enormous body of evidence for legitimate
belief in the God of the Bible).
- We think worship, both private and corporate, ought to include
the mind, will, and emotions-body, soul and spirit (our worship
of God ought to “move” us and the life inside us ought to
have some tangible demonstration).
|
The church and full-devotion...
- We think full devotion
should be the norm (Christ followers ought to have every area
of their lives fully impacted—how we think, how we act, how
we desire, decisions large and small, …it all matters to Him).
- We think excellence in
all we do must be our goal (excellence honors God and draws
people to Him).
- We think a constant desire
and an intentional attempt to be reaching out to others is
a mandate not an option (we aim to reach as many as we can
with the life-transforming truths of the Gospel).
- We think the major issues
of the Bible (the person of Christ, grace, salvation, faith,
forgiveness, sin, love, etc.) ought to be our major focus
(we aim to major on the majors and minor on the minors while
presenting the full counsel of God).
